With all of the time I spend on internal marketing programs I am always the first to suggest and admit that the best internal marketing is the infectiousness of one employee's eagerness to "Be the Brand" on another employee.

Frankly, a grumpy effective person is much better than a cheerful person who just sits around in meetings. If they get things done, I really don't care how grumpy they might be. Yes, there is a limit. If a person screams at you every time you ask for something, it's over the top. But, I wouldn't classify that person as effective.
This is especially true for technical folks.
