Thursday Edition
Basics run to Walgreens on Michigan Ave/Chicago. A "good to great" company. Could they be the world's worst merchandisers? Could well be. Looks like someone used a Giant Shot Gun to fire goods randomly around the store. (Looks this way all the time, not just holiday season.)

I concur. Been to that Walgreen's several times when I lived in Chicago. It's a hole. All of them are. If I was Jim Collins, I'd be embarrassed.

That is Walgreens' worst store. It is a miserable example of what happens when competition is not across the street. Too bad visitors from all over the world identify Walgreens with that zoo. Most Walgreens are efficiently managed for battling CVS. The majority of their bright, organized, cookie-cutter locations deliver an upbeat experience without the friction of the CVS carpeting.

They rock though in the profits department!

MM: Mag Mile may be Walgreens' worst, but the only other one I've visited of late, on Market Street in SF, was just as bad-disgusting. Freeman, I'm of a mind that you can do exciting work and make a ton, like Nike or Virgin or Starbucks or Nokia or Commerce Bank or FBR in investment banking or even GE, or, in drug retail, London Drugs of Canada. Walgreens, through my viewfinder, is a stinko outfit wherever I've crossed paths with it, period.
