Sorry I'm Not Home

Cold aside, I'm sorry I'll not be near the tube today for the Inauguration. I was appalled at an AOL poll that shows most won't watch a bit of it. I don't care who you voted for, a peaceful democratic transition (an American inaugural) is still one of the world's great wonders. If you don't like George W. Bush, watch for George Washington's sake!

Tom Peters posted this on 01/20/05.

Well said, sir. Of course I voted for Mr. Bush and am pleased that he won re-election. On the other hand, I always considered Mr. Clinton my president too--despite the fact I never voted for him--once a sufficient number of my fellow citizens decided he should be elected and then re-elected. I never wished him ill will and hoped and prayed for his success. The protesters and detractors are only embarrassing themselves with their tissy fits.

Wonder if the children in our schools are watching today--social studies/civics class aside...

pomp & circumstance to the Nth degree

it's a non-event

why should an american bother when she believes bush and company should be tried and executed for crimes against humanity?

this is the most dangerous man on the planet today, and we should relish four more years of him?

when to we begin the bombs in Iran and Korea?

how many more will die?

how much more hatred for america will be generated and what will be the end result?

and you all go on, as if there is some bright future ahead with this monster in office

you all go on, because you have never experienced any horror or terror in your lives

you, in your sheltered lives

the horror . . . the horror, of this man

go ahead, defend him

please, go ahead and tell me why I am so misguided

spare no detail

i want to know what kind of human can defend this man? i lost my only son because of this monster

shelly, the point of the blog entry was not whether or not you like w. (my impression is that you don't). i also believe that this blog/forum should not be political.

the question is why isn't anyone watching the inauguration? should we just stop working in the middle of the day on a thursday to watch it?

during the last world cup they did several studies on how all these european countries' economies lost billions and billions of dollars, because everyone was watching the soccer/football games during the work day (due to the time difference with japan and korea). how many billion dollars would our economy lose, if we all stopped working for a couple of hours? would it be worth it to watch an event that is nonthistoric in outcome (since we already know the outcome since the election)?

i do believe that national unity and celebrating the history of the united states are important, but don't the fourth of july and presidents day already serve that purpose?

"The protesters and detractors are only embarrassing themselves with their tissy fits." - Doug Smith

I'd like to thank Shelly for providing the perfect example of that comment on the first response to this blog.

And for any progressives who are going against their consciences by reading such a capitalist website, now you know how the rest of us felt when Clinton was elected and re-elected. America survived Clinton, and it will survive Bush.

I am a progressive who loves this website. I hold as a firm belief that Commerce can come with morality and that all boats will rise in that tide.
