Wednesday Edition
Did I share this with you before? (Peter?) I do believe in advanced education! Incl BizEducation! So while I'd dump the MBA, I'd add-substitute the following 6 degree programs, or some such:
MMM1 (Master of Metaphysical Management)
MMM2 (Master of Metabolic Management)
MGLF (Master of Great Leaps Forward)
MTD (Master of Talent Development)
W/Mw"GTD"w/oC (Woman/Man who "Gets Things Done" without Certificate)
DE (Doctor of Enthusiasm)
(See a bit more on this in my "REI.500" "master" PP presentation.)
Before blogging became all the rage, Tom was posting book reviews and Observations (essentially early blog posts) to this site. You can find the archives below.

I agree that MBA program has outlived its useful life. I am curious about PhD program though. There still seems need for a lot of rigor and research required in managing organizations ( any type of organization, not just business). I would be curious to know Tom's views about pursuing PhD in management today and may be good candidate areas.

I love it! The only real stumbling block I see is a lot of the old white guys who run MBA programs lack the capacity to make the necessary changes. After all, many of them were CEO's once. Maybe schools should rotate their administrations every five years and make the dean of the art school head of the business school. Think of the cool possibilities it could bring if students were regularly exposed to performance artists, sculptors, illustrators, painters and such. As an artist with an MBA I have seen enough funny looks from colleagues when I come up with an elegant, but unconventional solution to understand the power this can have in the right business environment.

Tom, I assume you share the same sentiments as Mintzberg? Wrong people, wrong time, etc? Or is there more you have to add to the discussion?
