Saturday Edition
Tell us about where you are today as the weather gods dump three feet of snow on you, fellow Bostonians (and non-Bostonians).
For once, I got out in time and flew to Seattle yesterday for a blogging conference that starts here Monday. It's a warmish (50 degrees F) rainy evening in the Northwest as the storm rages back home in the Northeast.
I was thrilled to simply go running in a light rain this morning here—the below zero temps at home make me feel like a weather hostage.

Read you were in Seattle...from your blog.
In Marlborough, MA, the total is about 8 inches and climbing. Oh, did I mention the wind?
Stay in Seattle, and take me there next time!
Say hi to the Scobles

New Jersey. About 15 minutes from Newark international airport and 20 from NYC. It's been snowing since noon (Sat) and we've accumulated maybe 10 inches. We're in a declared state of emergency and less people are visiting the hospitals than any other night of the year. Give me my black tea and Abraham Lincoln biography.

Let's see...Burbank, CA. Sunny, warm, mid-70s. Took a walk along the pier in Santa Barbara this afternoon. Mid-60s, mild breeze. Tomorrow, more of the same. I'll sit out on my patio, smoke a fine cigar, drink a glass (or two) of scotch and watch football.

Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC.
Snow is over, and we have five inches on the ground.
Down in the teens tonight, twenties tomorrow with wind, then cold tomorrow night.
Reading Renovate Before You Innovate by Sergio Zyman.

I am in Poiana Brasov, Romania, Eastern Europe, 9am local time. It is snowing heavily since last night. Interesting fact: I am reading Sergio's latest relase as well, Renovate Before You Inovate. Couple of pages more and I will have breakfast. A huge one.

101 F (or 38.5 C... tomorrow over 40). Northwest Victoria, Australia. Hot, with enough moisture - not humid, not dry, to make (inland) Australian summers wonderful !!!

Just in from 100 k (62 miles) along a coast road between Cannes and Frejus with about 70 of my fellow clubmembers, and a few thousand other French cyclists (we 'own' the roads on Sunday mornings), about 15 C (59 F). Nice.
And snow, yes, sure, that's the usual backdrop on the southern alps, reachable in 1-2 hours. If need be.
Passed huge Napster flyers in Cannes, proof that those guys have gotten into another camp - it's 'Midem' time down there making us weave our cycles between the suits when getting back. That's when sweaty bike clothes feels absolutely right.

In just three short hours (ok, I was dealing with the airlines so it felt like days), I went from Florida sun to Michigan blizzard. Northwest said they couldn't get me out of Detroit into home Grand Rapids until 3:30 next day. Hotels all booked. No rental cars. Cashed in some road warrior iou's and got a room in Dearborn. Got suspicious of NWA, went on the web and found a flight at noon. Asked why they didn't offer that to me the previous night. They responded, "don't know". Now looking forward to trying to find my car buried under the snow at GRR and who knows where my luggage is. Ahh, the romantic teavelling life.

Will be an unseasonably warm 60 deg. here in Colorado today. But.... a snowstorm that dominates the news when it hits the Northeast would be a near- non-event here.

Here in the Merrimack Valley, offical snowfall observations at 9 a.m. Sunday were hovering close to or at the 2 foot mark (with 5 foot drifts recorded in Beverly). Wind will actually be increasing over the next few hours and temps are going to drop to about 10 F. (The Cape is going to have worse wind, gusting dangerously to 75-80 mph!) Since it's such a light powder, I'm going to wait until the blizzard it pretty much over before going out to shovel! Reg in Bradford, out!

Can you believe it, VERMONT got off easy, about 15-18 inches here in West Tinmouth. Have had the MAGNIFICENT Weather Channel on non-stop. (There was a great book about the WChannel a couple of years ago. My kind of BizBook, you know, they thought the founder was, well, an idiot, etc, etc.) The reports from E Mass staggering; HURRICANE flag flying at Chatham (Cape Cod) for the first time ever in Winter--not to mention an eventual 3+ feet of snow. Plus temperatures heading back below ZERO, already Minus 5 here in VT. (Garrison Keilor did a great riff last night on Embarrass MN, where it hit Minus 54 last week.) Sun out in VT, and I'm about to brave the subzero+wind to go Snowshoeing--it is sooooooooo BEAUTIFUL. Meanwhile, totally bummed about missing the BizBlog conference i was heading for today, but when they say LOGAN is shut "indefinitely," i think they may mean until about April!!!!!!!!!! BTW, my new puppy, Dodger, loving his first 1-foot+ snow. Talk about Pure Joy!)

Greetings from a very white Exeter, New Hampshire. 20" of snow, wind bending the pines, hot chocolate in the mugs and the Patriots pre-game on the tube. Ahhh . . . New England!

Well, to answer a few questions above, yes, I'm here in Seattle where we had a lovely bash for Scoble's 40th birthday last night. Every time I opened the door, I expected to see blizzard conditions -- my mind was very mixed up from all the back east blogs and phone calls. Amazingly, it would be rainy and 60 on the Scobles' porch.
Other newsmaking details, yes, Maryam and I got Robert to take us into Kirkland to get our nails done -- de rigeur pre-party! We wanted to go with Gwen Stefani black, but chose the lady-fied pink. We had a blast recounting the first time SHE met her husband Robert and the first time I met her husband Robert. My story was far more dull -- I met Robert when he and Kevin Marks bailed me out setting up WiFi in Oct 2002 for a Harvard Conference in Los Altos, CA. He didn't even work for Microsoft then. Long, long ago.
I have to say, Steve Broback doing magic tricks and me handling the Tarot card readings made the party a ton of fun.
Also, Scoble was right, there were too many interesting folks and too much interesting stuff to discuss to ever get around to dancing -- and barely a square inch free anyway.

Just finished digging out in NJ. The big downside to apartment living is digging your car out after the municipality plowed you in.

Once again, Chelmsford was featured on the Boston weather news - this time as getting four inches of snow in a half hour. Most of that ended up in a five-foot drift in my driveway that took several passes with the snowblower to get cleared out. The fun part of the day was watching the dogs cavorting. Topper, our corgi, who has a ground clearance of about two inches, was swallowed up several times as he threw himself into snowbanks. He loves it. Temperatures still in the single digits as the cold settles back in, but the roads and driveway are clear, the Manhattan has been mixed and poured, and the Pats will take the field shortly.

Norwalk, CA.
Just before Steelers game began it was 75 out.
Hope this helps in getting the big (weather) picture.

Just got out of my car here in Auckland, New Zealand and the temperature is 36C (approx 102F). Blue sky, puffy cloud day with little promise of rain, for a change. Check out www.predictweather.com for some awesome weather forecasts by the moon. I've completely given up on our met office in favour of Ken Ring's site.

A little off topic, but wondering if anyone has any "healing sounds" CD's that work well with snow ?
Posted by jeff at January 24, 2005 12:23 AM
I'm in the thick of it as you know, Boston area. I don't even want to mention the temperature. But, good thing for me, I love shoveling snow. It's not every day I get to move mountains.
