First Day of Spring!

Today is the true First Day of Spring. The day the "batteries" (pitchers & catchers) report to camp/Spring Training for many teams.

Baseball is in the air!
Happy Spring.2005!

(Is that a Robin I see peeking his head through the new-fallen VT snow?)

Tom Peters posted this on 02/17/05.

"Baseball is in the air!" That image is enough to soothe my withdrawal from a winter without hockey. There is joy in Mudville!

Happy Spring to you.

"Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems - Rainer Maria Rilke.

It is freezing here in England - doesn't feel much like spring at the moment ...

And the fallen tree - to cut up in the garden - is not an attractive option at present! .. oh well let's leave it to the weekend!

As my beloved Annie says ...why do today what you can put off till tomorrow! ... at least I think that's what she said ....

For me, in Brazil, it is a very hot day, and it is the beginning of the autumn - Thanks God!!
You guys don´t even know how it is hard (and hot) to use a suit at the tropics.

Brilliant Fabio - go to work in a t shirt - abandon the suit!

Yes the Robins have returned as have the vials of performance enhancing substances to Florida and Arizona. Do you think we would have ever seen Ernie Banks selling out Ron Santo in a Mike Wallace interview the night before Spring training started? The Jose Cansecos of today make it a bit difficult to feel that magic that the opening of Spring Training used to mean. At least we still have the Robins.....

Uhmmm...maybe I am missing something but the springtraining link was last updated April 2002.

GO CUBS!!! Curses be damned!

Oops, sorry, the link was my fault, fixed now. I know it plays havoc with RSS feeds, but I have to fix things.

Dr. Tom - any Yankee v Sox predictions now that the Yankees have "le big unit"?

And is is possible that the Yankees may end up on the West Side or near the old Polo Grounds?

Yes, Spring. We’re already into calving season; which means carefully checking the cattle each evening and, when the spring storms hit, walking or riding the pastures every hour all night long, prepared to be a bovine obstetrician. Yet I never quite get over the miracle of it all when the sun breaks out and the babies are up and nursing.

No... it is not a Robin. Most likely it's a Bluejay, an Oriole, or a Cardinal... or a Red Sock that fell from the laudry basket.

Or if it is not a Robin, maybe it is a Batman (hehehehe! I crack myself up!)

I always make it a point to read the first few chapters of The Summer Game by Roger Angell, every February.

His description of the first day of spring training with the background sound of dozens of baseballs popping into leather gloves is a WOW moment in writing.

Maybe this year.......

Baseball in the bay area.

Im hoping Barry comes out and has a great year (with all of the testing in place) and proves how great of a player he is!!!

Im soooooo tired of hearing the "S word"!!!

Posted by Mike at February 17, 2005 5:52 PM

well let's hope baseball can clean up the S in the locker rooms, and the game can go WOW again

Yes, Spring is coming. The dogwoods and azaleas will be stunning during this year’s Masters Tournament. The Daffodils are already above ground and the buds on the forsythia look bigger than ever. Love is in the air, I mean Lovemarks of course. Ha-ha.

Tom - Could have been a robin, but I doubt it quite yet. Definitely more spring-like birds and calls around as the sun blazes this glorious, but more late-winter day. An excellent XC ski this afternoon. Air temps still single digits up in the mtns, but warm ground around tree trunks in most of VT gains on the snow pack. Alas, and to the delight of skiers, 4-7" more fresh stuff in the forecast for tomorrow. Cheers! - Eric

I was just dreamin' Eric. Nope. No Robin ... except in my mind. (Hey, I watched "Finding Neverland" last night--what you can dream you can do!)
