BW Blogs

BusinessWeek has jumped into Blog-world, big time, with not one, but four, blogs. Grouped under the Heading "The Thread," they are organized by broad topics:

Marketing: Brand New Day

Venture Capital and Startups: Deal Flow

Tech Innovations and Trends: The Tech Beat

Personal Finance: Well Spent

Check 'em out. I'm sure it will be time well spent. But come back and let us know about it, okay?

Comments

These are not Blogs. They are websites that are updated often. Blogs allow, and indeed encourage comentary and conversation.

Doug:I think your wrong. The Page supports RSS and permalinks. We welcome BusinessWeek to blogsphere.

It's definitely not as bloggy as Tom's site is. For instance, I couldn't say, " /pd is a raging moron for believing it resembles a blog just because the content is described in RSS" on the businessweek site since they probably don't want that kind of level of detail from their audience and hence prohibit dialog.

Dear "I'm Blogger than You" or whoever you are,
Your comment, posted with a ridiculous i.d., demonstrates one of the few down sides of blogging--lambasting others for an opinion that opposes yours and calling them names--get over yourself.
Here is the saddest part--posting this response opens me up to your same foolish commentary.
How sad that blogging takes a courageous leap when it is meant for joyous exchange and substantiated challenges.

Bravo Pam! Your execrably sweet Muzak is lulling me to much needed sleep.

IBTY's comment is crude and out of touch with community standards here. And even so, you are completely wrong about everything you say about it, and then some.

1. It is a completely self-substantiated challenge.
2. He/she is only INdirectly name-calling by way of a subjunctive meta-reference, which gives it a reasonably playful slant.
3. And while your response IS directly connected to the saddest part of blogging. That sadness IS NOT synchronous with the oversensitivity that characterizes your courageously joyous leaping party.

In truth, the get-over-yourself-beauty of blogging is that just maybe your thoughts get opened up to some foolish commentary. For foolish things shall make them wise

I just wonder if David Kiley from the marketing roll will ever even read my beautifully insightful comment on his sadly transparent article. I suggested that maybe his version of the unfortunately all too popular "food-reward system" has more to do with child obesity than any food company advertising does. And just so you know that I already am over myself, my comment was chock-full of self-deprecating humor, which by all rights validates everything I say.

No, Doug, these are not blogs, and they are not very good either. And sarcasm isn't pretty, but I'm suddenly too sleepy to apologize.

What have "Applebees Schmapplebees" ("Brand New Day) to do with marketing? I just wonder. If this BW-blog should have anything to do with "thoughts of marketing and advertising".

BusinessWeek allows comments. Is it not a blog because the entries are perhaps researched and well-thought-out like articles published by BW in other media? Are the Fast Company blog and the Worthwhile blog not blogs? I thought when posting this that I was pointing out an opportunity to have a conversation with knowledgeable people. Thanks for saying the tp.com is more blog-like, but maybe I don't know what that means.

"Are blogs an echo chamber? On the edges, they are. But there is a vast middle ground of people who are neither red nor blue and defy such simplistic media categorization. We are who we are and our blogs represent us. Also note that we link to those with whom we disagree so we can disagree. That cacophony of voices and viewpoints seems so unruly to those of us who've made our living ordering the world for print. But the noise is good. It's democratic." -Jeff

If we're going to look for closed societies and echo chambers- look no further we have that breed within this forum who hide behind nameless email addresses.

To: "I'm Blogger than You " and "Jason Kerr" - who have some much to say about blogs.. just where are your blogs may I ask ??

Jason "He/she is only INdirectly name-calling by way of a subjunctive meta-reference, which gives it a reasonably playful slant" - I hve no problem with both--direct and in-direct name calling. either in open forums or behind closed doors. This is a discourse.

So in the same "food-reward system" -- I have to tell you 'sit quiet Doggy I said --at heel dog GOOD --now heres your bone !!
