Friday Edition
I'm at the Windsor Court hotel in the Big Easy. (N'Orleans.) (Nawlins.) I'm an Annapolis Boy, a Chesapeake Bay Boy. But credit where credit is due: The ... WINDSOR COURT's ... CRABCAKES ... are the best I've ever eaten! Also, I was lucky enough to end up with a 17th floor room ... WHAT AN INCREDIBLE VIEW OF THE MISSISSIPPI! That Ole River does indeed keep Rollin' Along!

New Orleans...Paris light. This is not take away from the charms, history and haute cusine of the "Big Easy". However, Paris with it's careful planning over the last one hundred years is a great model for US cities. Maintain the charm as renovations and so called improvements are undertaken.

Tom. As a cajun, I must recommend the Acme Oyster House on Iberville Street. I was born in Louisiana and raised in New England, so I know oysters. There isn't a better take in the US. Eat at the stainless steel bar, grab a cold one and watch 'em shuck. And check out the raw oyster eating record holder. Unbelievable!

Seattle has the best seafood out west. The D.C. area of course has fine crab cakes.

As one who a) grew up near Nawlins, worked in the Chesapeake Bay area, and traveled pretty much the globe, I can tell you the best crab cakes I've ever had are at Dick & Harry's in Roswell, GA. Basically a tuna can size of crab meat on a plate. Wow.
My top 5 cities for food....(in no particular order)....NO, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and Portland (seafood and beer!).

Tom, was in New Orleans the same weekend as you for an adult women's soccer tournament (I went to Tulane University many moons ago). I ate too many bbq shrimp at Deanie's, but managed to by-pass the Bourbon Street crawl (many of my much younger teammates did not) and get in some good soccer. Love New Orleans (the parts that aren't about full-tilt partying) and am sorry I missed you. Hope you had a great time.... Allison (aka "the photographer")
