I had a client today pay me the biggest compliment I've ever recieved in my life. She said, "I have never seen anyone yet in this field do as much research as you're doing. You're on the right track and I believe absolutely that you're in the right place and you are meant to do what you're doing." Wow. How I needed to hear this. I'm in a field where peers are dropping out like flies. Executive coaching is one thing, but to find your niche as a personal/life coach is totally another. I feel blessed to have found what I believe I'm meant to do but yet many others will rush headlong into their particular niche without really understanding their client.
I 'demo' everything. I spent the entire year of 2004 as the director of a "Company of One" in the R&D lab. All I wanted was information, and I got it. Asking lots of questions helps.
The reason it meant so much to me is because I am not making enough money (yet) doing what I love to do, but I'm getting there. I have given away quite a bit. But what has happened in the process is I've built a trusting relationship with my clients and potential clients. They know I care. And that to me, is part of the whole "demo" magic. :-)

Agree with you on this Tom. I have been working the demo way with customers for the past 18 months and it works splendidly.
My way of looking at it is that a demo is an opportunity to have "harmonious flow" in the interaction with a prospective customer or customer.
