Saturday Edition
When I'm confused or concerned about public issues (most of the time), I almost unfailingly start my journey through/out of the wilderness via Andrew Sullivan. I occasionally or more disagree with him, but invariably leave the discussion with a shimmer of congealing clarity.

JHS, thanks, I was mildly impressed when that one slithered out of the keyboard. You know the bit about the infinite # of monkeys and Shakespeare ...

Tom - Thanks for that link to Andrew Sullivan - a cracking Abraham Lincoln quotation. Spookily enough we were working in Westminster yesterday at the Queen Elizabeth Second Conference Centre and as Annie and I strolled through Parliament Square afterwards I noticed – I have to say for the first time - the wonderful statue of Abraham Lincoln. He must have been a great wordsmith. Simplicity was his key word too I guess.

Interesting selection of a Lincoln quote. I wonder if he said that before or after he suspended the right of habeas corpus.
I'm in a "leadership fiasco" frame of mind this morning and I'm reminded of another Lincoln story. Lincoln had had about enough of General MacLellan (the second time around) and said the General reminded him of the guy whose horse got to kicking around and got one foot caught in the stirrup. The fellow looked down at the horse and said, "look, if you want to get on, I'll get off!"
