Soft? Liberal? (Okay, the entire Congressional delegation consists of Democrats.) Anti-business? Pro-tax & Big Government?
If all these things are true, then why did recent research indicate that Boston has a higher percentage of millionaires than any other metro area in the U.S.? The top six: Boston: 4.8%. Philly: 4.0%. D.C.: 4.0% (a little less now that Jack Abramoff has copped a plea?). L.A.: 3.7%. NYC: 3.7%. Chicago: 3.7%.
Go figure.

What about Silicon valley? I think a lot of that may have to do with definitions of metro areas. What's being measured?

Here's another one to ponder. New York, which suffered more than any other city in 9/11, voted overwhelmingly against Bush in 2004, and presumably the Iraq war along with it.

Derek: Metro-Detroit, with it's large union and otherwise democratic base voted Kerry in '04, but one of the major suburbs--Dearborn (home of Henry Ford, BTW)with a huge Iraqi and Arab immigrant population voted for Bush. What do they know that the New Yorkers don't?

Mike, you gotta be kidding me. Arabs slightly favored Bush in spite of Iraq, not because of it. Poll after poll showed Arab American opposition to the war, usually in the 70%+ range. Bush's support from Arabs was even higher in 2000 that it was in 2004. What changed? I doubt it was his position on tax cuts.
Just google "arab american bush poll" and you'll find lots of articles like this one:

Representative quote: "Miski said many were happy at the start of the war when Saddam Hussein was removed from power. But months of violence in Iraq and the failing Israeli- Palestinian peace effort have turned sentiment against Bush."
The guy they quoted supported Bush. Think he knows something you don't?
