Monday Edition
Was in D.C. (for a Baltimore speech—see slides below). My absolute favorite pastime is my long morning jog in Georgetown, along the historic C & O canal towpath. Well, I love it throughout the year ... though I do admit it looked pretty dreary & lonely at 6:30a.m. yesterday.

[Note from Cathy: I cut down the photo so it wouldn't take up too much space on the front page, but Tom's original is much more impressive. You can see it and more recent photos by clicking here.]

Tom - I used to love Georgetown runs myself - especially along Embassy Row - and early morning jaunts around the Capitol and Whitehouse and Mall - seeing the massive structures in early light made it clear that this culture planned to be around for more than a few years.

I used to run up and down the corridors in the Pentagon. I must have done 10 miles a day getting from one place to the other there!

Yea, I did a few weeks up there helping my Army cousins when I was in the Air Force. I had Top Secret clearance, so was able to get to see some cool stuff...war rooms, et al. But the maze of corridors requires a decent fitness level - then, I suppose that it would be sad if the military wasn't fit enough for it. Perhaps the Navy would have some difficulty, they had special weight restrictions! No offense Tom!

i was lucky enough to be in d.c. for 18 months working on the "redbox" concept venture. the run along the canal is some kinda special, but beg borrow or steal a mountain bike and do the ride it just gets more special the further you go

Looks like a great place for a walk. (WALK) If God had intended us to run everywhere, he wouldn't have given us Henry Ford.

Good point Mike! Running is bad for the knees!

Pentagon days. We youngsters (circa 1968) were nasty buggers. We were all back from Vietnam and had, mostly, a few rows of ribbons. Our superiors, except for the old guys, hadn't had a war ... and were thence bare-chested. We weren't really encouraged to wear uniforms much, but the young turks did just to annoy the bare-chested brass.
It is an amazing building, and in the 60s the security was very light. One could almost wander in un-badged.
