We need more Americans like Bill and Melinda Gates. He and she are truly a National Treasures, World Treasures! It would be nice to see more rich folks extend a hand.

It's not just the values part of this that impresses me it's also the recognition by Gates that just handing out dosh doesn't work it has to be done properly to make sure it has real impact.
When you have fine values based leadership combined with great management practicality that is truely incredible.

Buffet donates $37bn to more than double the funds of the Gates foundation.
Money is labelled for 5 charitable organisations over a period of years, but will of course be part of the Gates foundation investment portfolio during the time, and can as such end up being a lot more money than the already amazing $37bn.
Philantropy is the new black! And I mean that in a good way!

Hats off to the Gates Foundation and the good works it is doing.
But -
Just like many other of the foundations that have contributed so much in our past, this one is build on the backs of so many others with one man receiving an obscene amount of the rewards. Remember when you consider the excellent management of Microsoft that the corporation has been convicted twice for being a monopoly - once here and once in Europe. Remember just a few short days ago the discussions about business ethics, the Ken Layes of the business world, and the those executives that have gotten away with "it". Remember also that foundations are great tax breaks.
I am sorry. I just have a hard time lauding the man at the top for all the wonderful things he is doing. Thankful I am, but impressed? Not hardly. I am much more prone to laud Linus Torvalds (hardly a billionare) for creating something which is a stable platform that all those poor starving masses can use without charging a cent for it and without with any profit motive at all.
