Fantastic slideshow on strategy versus execution!
These brilliant military and naval minds of Grant, Nelson and Napoleon took execution, as their strategy.
On a daily basis I bang my head off my (cubicle) desk wondering what goes through the minds of Senior Managers when they think up another re-organisation or re-structuring. The desktops of companies are full of unfinished projects as a result - yes - littered around the place in expensive folders as great ideas get dumped due to another wave of changes.
How much money is wasted every year by spending the first quarter trying to work out what to do and maybe a little restructuring in the second quarter and then trying to catch up in the remaining two quarters of each year. Us 'Execution' believers should forget about turning up for work until the last two quarters of the year!
Anyway us believers should keep tracking and monitoring and doing what we have to do - we will win the war in the end!

Perhaps what you view as pointless re-orgs/re-struct IS what senior managers view as executing?!?
Is that the problem - I have never encountered anyone in business who thought that they were not executing - What is lacking is focussed execution!

Yes, admitedly in their eyes it is executing and yes they are definitely lacking in focussed execution.
My main issue with it is that they seem to think that this one action will lead to radical change. I'm with TP in that a whole load of separate actions need to be completed in order to bring about a successful organisation.
It's a constant juggle and some 'Leaders' are better than others at this.
