Thursday Edition

We have a new special presentation. It makes one wonder what Tom's been thinking about lately when its title is GuerillaAdvantage. You can see for yourself by downloading it here. He planned to use it in Singapore, and it will be the subject of an upcoming post.
[About the picture above, Tom says this: "As usual Singapore is busting out all over. The sky is more or less blocked by the ubiquitous construction Sky Cranes. They amount de facto to the National Bird." I'm thoroughly enjoying these glimpses of cities all over the world that Tom's been sending us. I hope you are, too.]

Guerilla DOES NOT equal Terrorist. The IHC way overestimates terrorist Hezbollah. Really their MAIN if not ONLY advantage is that they LOVE to integrate with innocent citizens, kids, women - and set up fairly primitive rockets in citizen households/hospitals/senior centers ... making killing Hezbollah difficult.
PLUS huge ARAB oil is an incredible source of TERRORIST funding - different from Guerilla days of past.
1st reading - find zero credibility in this metaphor use - [solely] due to the IHC quote it seems.

Agree, Sean. I don't think the IDF is nearly as surprised by the fight it's in as the drive-by media would have us believe.
The use of a newspaper op-ed piece in Tom's slideshow to help prove his point only takes away credibility from the argument he is trying to make. I learned in high school debate club (about 100 years ago)never to use newspapers or quotes from politicians as evidence for any argument.
Just my opinion, as always...

The more I look at TP work and thought processes, the more I think he's the original pinko artist. Pinko's are those with radical thoughts , that want to change the world kinda thingy !!
Pinko = CommunityStrategy [[term coined by Tara Hunt.]

Tom - I follow the thread of Terrorism as New Design - but think the main deal is Islam-Fascism OIL funds them - AND terror acts drive UP Oil revenue.

Apart from the point on terrorism and war per se - that the nature of these conflicts and those waging them has changed - surely Tom's main point is that in the digital age/experience economy, business faces the same issues?
It surprises me how often people seem offended by the metaphor, and/or miss the main point.

Stephen--nobody missed the main point, they (we) only pointed out that the metaphor was probably not a good analogy--at least for us. If the metaphor does not resonate with the audience, it doesn't work as intended. I think Tom Peters is looking for feedback on new slide shows, not genuflecting.

Mike - that is it indeed the METAPHOR is Whack AND the Tribune has Zero Credibility especially when it romanticizes Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and similar FASCIST/Racist terrorists.

Well,
I don't think Tom was romanticising anyone - just making a broad-based attack on sluggish, monolithic thinking & acting across government, military and - by extension - business.
However, I suppose if enough people said they didn't like the metaphor then that's helpful feedback. I just think people need to be open-minded and objective when it comes to learning lessons from the (massively dynamic and unpredictable) world around us. While we're arguing about the metaphor, the competition/enemy (in whatever field) is stealing a march on us!

Stephen/Tom - Terrorists have 2 unique key "strategy" advantages:
1. terror - mainly/solely target and kill/maim innocents, kids-women, et al -
2. lifeblood of Big Oil Islam-fascism incredible wealth ... love to kill you and family
How can any "business" metaphor be spun from that to present to an audience - that may apply to them?

Sean,
You're just proving my point!
