Above are the mashed potatoes that go with the fried chicken—I guess they fill that little hole in the picture below. While I think of obesity and the USA in the same breath, an M.D. in my Singapore audience told me, as I recall, that youth obesity there has soared from 10% to 40% in the last decade. Pandemic, anyone?

(Dan Quayle Award to TP. Thank God for spellcheck! Above, the LRL/Little Red Line appeared under "potatoes," which I initially spelled "potatos.")

Your food photos make a point, emphatically.

But if you'd like to see some amazingly beautiful food pictures, go to this site:

Which I found by going to this blog about Watertown, MA, the next town over from me. I think it's a great idea:
http://h2otown.info/blog

The h2otown blog is written mostly by a woman named Lisa, whom I met at an event given by our good friend Halley Suitt.

Halley's now CEO of toptensources.com. Halley, we miss you!

By the way, I have too many links in this comment, and it will be stopped by our spam filter. Fortunately, I can go into admin and approve it myself.

Another link to more exceptional photos, of the Charles River in Watertown. Tom, looks like a good place for rowing:

Sorry to be so off topic. I hope the next commenter wants to discuss healthcare.

Hi Cathy,

Oh, what fun, and not so off topic. As an avid, long time powerlifter, anything that gets folks off of their butt is worthwhile. Good food and any incentive to move are appropriate.

Hope am not off-topic...The mashed potatoes reminded me of KFC and KFC (here in Hong Kong)reminds me of a new carry-bag that has a "finger hole type handle" - Its crazy!!! So damn inconvienent to carry stuff from KFC back home...I believe they are stretching the concept of innovation way beyond comprehension and practical applicability. I think innovation must make things easy for the consumer and not the other way round. In short, KFC's new "hole-handle" carry bag SUCKS!!!

This topic kills me. It is also killing many people. We saw a bag of potato chips that reads “0 Trans Fat”. What the H$%$&%* is that? Are they good for you? NOT! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability!

I know the answer from the many: Choices!

I still say Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability! Accountability!

Moderation! Moderation! Moderation! Moderation!, and take a 45 minute walk with your wife / significant other every evening...good for the soul, and waistline.

1000% of purchases in households via women's decisons - including fast food - junk food - fat food - obesity dining - how to mitigate?

Posted by sean at August 8, 2006 10:38 AM

Sean, are you blaming the U.S. obesity problem on women??

Posted by GraceAnn at August 8, 2006 11:56 AM

GraceAnn - not totally but yes TP site research metrics accurately "celebrate" that women make the vast majority [85+ %] of ALL purchasing decisions - consumer/consumption including "nutrition". Males simply can't eat the same food choices either as higher bodyfat females without gaining excess fat.

Plus in addition - the massive consumer credit card debt of USA/EU consumers must lie at the feet of women - cute how they say "shop 'til you drop" isn't it?

Tom, don't know if you saw this piece in the NY Times on Sunday (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/06/business/yourmoney/06goods.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin,) but your post reminded me of it - mashed potatoes with gravy, AND deep fried chicken, AND cheese, all in the same bowl! I think we're headed towards 50%, I'm afraid. buy brand viagra without prescription

Blame the tobacco companies because you smoke yourself to death, blame the junk food makers because you eat yourself into a heart attack--then blame the doctors and hospitals because you don't get well immediately.

The commentor above wrote Accountability! over and over--TRUE. Guess who's accountable for YOUR health problems--look in the mirror.
