It's never as glamorous as people would imagine. Isn't it funny how you can travel to so many cities, and see little more then the hotel and the airport?
Could be worse Tom, you could be sitting outside with the "normal" people.....don't knock the lounges they are sure better than McDonalds!

Ahhh. A smoking lounge.

Paul: a sign POINTING TO a smoking lounge. I am not a smoker, for what it's worth. One of the few vices I seem to have bypassed.
Richard: Not sure I fully agree. About half the time I don't go in. The space is often (like this picture) very clostrophobic (sp??), and there is too much easy access to free carbs. When I've got computer work, and access to a plug, I often find a mostly empty gate area--then go get my Starbucks. I do have an extraordinary ability (well, I do) to tune anything out when I'm absorbed in my work.

Tom, amazing travels in the last 2 months. I was in the room in Adelaide Australia. You were fresh, energised and thought provoking. Have you got shares in Starbucks (joke of course!)?

I am often critical of service from the airlines, but with the exception of the shared facility with Virgin at Logan, I must say Northwests World Clubs offer a great respite. Very comfortable, clean, and you can find a quiet spot to work. Aeron chairs a plus! (go Herman Miller!). Now if we can only teach people not to use their cell phones directly under the sign that says "quiet zone". All World Clubs have free wifi as well.

I think its in a Douglas Adams book about how airports are designed to be nerve janglinly bad and how they use a clash of colours an textures that make the whole experience simply horrific. The colours for Easy Jet are bright Orange, the Ryan Air plastic seats in dark blue but the head rest in direct eye line is the brightest keep you awake yellow you will ever know on a late night flight! Trust me I have 18 months of it planned in the diary! YUK! Great if you can go with a carrier and have customers that are happy to pay business+ it must be very plesant, in the hope Richard (Sir of the Branson veriety reads this!)...
Before blogging became all the rage, Tom was posting book reviews and Observations (essentially early blog posts) to this site. You can find the archives below.

Ahh...the good life. Make sure you throw away your Jello pudding and gel insoles before boarding...
