15 Words

The "right" 15 words can reframe a major issue. And I found 'em, for me, relative to one of my "Top 10" strategic business concerns. New (and damn good) book from AARP boss Bill Novelli, 50+: Igniting a Revolution to Reinvent America. Stop the clucking, already. Of course it's institutionally self-serving. But that doesn't keep it from being damn good.

And here is the turn of phrase I love: "People turning 50 today have more than half of their adult life ahead of them."

That's it!
Listening, you teen-obsessed weenies [oops, marketing "geniuses"]?
Trillions upon trillions of bucks.
Lots and lots of time.
And energy.
And: Eager to spend.

Repeat: MORE THAN HALF!

WOW! Brilliant - another 50+ years on this planet!! As a proud 'boomer' I can tell my bank to be patient about the overdraft. It also means I have a bit more time than I thought to tidy up the garage ... I need not start for at least 40 years :-)

I suppose if "adult life" starts at 30 and ends at 70, before turning into "geezer" life, he might have a point. But judging from the big fat swinging gut on your average American, I would say today's longevity estimates are a tad optimistic. Still, you can't deny the lard assess have money.

PRESSURE! I must live the "meaningful life" for another 50+ years - oh no AND I'm "devouring" the ultra new "Ageless" by Suzanne Somers [Wal*Mart].

Just what this 50 year old needed to hear having recently been told that I am entering the "spring of my senility"!

So then, it's yay-hooray for us 'understated' old farts... who still use telephones and neither know nor care too much about [all those internet fads which are supposed to be uber-cool].
