Tom, Dalai Lama

Soulmates! Tom and the Dalai Lama. It never would have occurred to me, but Omar Khan says exactly that in this article in Conference Board Review, where he describes the pair as "examples of people who travel all over the world being triumphantly themselves." Triumphantly themselves. Who could want to be anything more?

Cathy Mosca posted this on 12/06/06.

"Triumphantly themselves. Who could want to be anything more?"

And who would want to be anything less?

an article to frame an put on the wall.
lots of wisdom in there. and some very important learnings for interaction in our global world.

"The real purpose of global interaction, of global leadership, is to help change each other, not to just adapt to each other.
Forget the extreme intricacies of cross-cultural awareness. Go out and pace the people you encounter. Experience the cities and cultures of the world and see what they evoke in you. Bridge from what you perceive to your own experiences and share back, so the learning flows in both directions."

all thumbs up!
go out and do as he says!

I can't agree more. This mantra would be ideal for the age of social media and web 2.0, where everybody can be him or herself and where individual expression is sometimes valued over corporate monotony. You will be surprised that this same principle is becoming more and more true here in Asia too, where traditionally, the self is subjugated to the organisation.

Triumphant, reminds me of trumpets heralding angels... mmm close.

Le Lama EXILE on Main Street as Sir Mick might say - his Tibet occupied and ruled by merchantile fascist CHINESE since 1950 ... maybe Tom to change that?

Thomas Friedman quote recently resonates most with me about current world affairs AND need for radical CHANGE: " ... big question is whether the Islamists will now LOVE their children more than they HATE each other ... 2000 years of Islam sponsored bloodshed ..." Tom to change that!?

And didn't Bill Murray meet le Lama per "Caddyshack"?

These are excellent comments!
Thank you all.

Need for radical change? Leaded by "good boys"?

Yes, I understand.
"They" are bloodthirsty Islamists, "they" are faschist Chinesse.

And you have forgotten indians, negroes, etc.

All of "them" who differs from "good boys" are bad boys you mean? And "good boys" will tell the world who is good and who is bad?

Thank you for the change like this!
We in Europe have our opinion with something like this. You may have heard the name of the man who spreaded similar points of view: Adolf.

There is an intellectual honesty embedded in the work and lives to Tom and The Dalai Lama, expressed with great joy and sincerity. Congrats for getting the recognition for this side of your life Tom.

P/S. Just me, but I would also include the late great Dr. Buckminster Fuller

Being 'triumphantly himself' Tom made my day in May 2006. I consider myself fortunate to have had the immense pleasure of meeting him in London. The main reason I was impressed with Tom is not in fact as the article says because ‘he shouts, exhorts, rants, ignites.’ He was in fact ‘triumphantly himself’ in my view because of his humility, modesty and kindness. Tom has more in common with the Dali Lama for his humility than anything else. Thank you TP.
