Response: If you've got 16 employees and at least two are turkeys, you're lousy at recruitment and should put more thought and effort into this most important managerial skill.

Better: If you've got 16 employees, and two of them are turkeys, one of them is you.

Maybe you've simply stuffed your employees :-)

Stuffing your employees is a great idea, particularly around Christmas. Hooray for food!

Google, Starbucks, Nordstrom may be exceptions - their scrutiny for TALENT is exhaustive ...

My real point: People may well be "misfits" in any particular situation. They are NOT "turkeys." (See my Tip #79 in a recent Post.)

I am not sure we recruit and hire turkeys...but instead manufacture them once we have them on the payroll. I have seen a lot of inspired and great talent drained by the insane policies, practices, and systems of so many corporations. Want them turkeys to fly? Give them work that matters, decent resources, and get the hell outta their way...

"As long as the turkeys aren't being told they're turkeys, they don't mind. But you have to tell them about it, and the earlier you tell them in their careers, the better."

If you manage 16:2 ratio in terms of your recruitment/management then actually you doing pretty well.
My favorite scenario is where the "turkeys" are moved to a different manager and become super stars.......
Trevor isn't stuffing your employees an HR violation?
