Sunday Edition
Off today for 5 weeks. Greece-Saudi Arabia-San Francisco for the next 14 days (4 seminars), followed by nearly 3 weeks of New Zealand summer hiking, including the Routeburn Track. I'll be silent during the NZ sojourn—no computer allowed, by direct order (including inspection) of my dearly beloved spouse. (She has a point.)

Tom - Have fun in NZ. I just got back from 3 weeks there. If you get close to Okarito on the west coast of the south island, take the night time Kiwi tour/walk - you get to search for and see (hopefully) the rarest of all suspecies (250) with someone who knows their territories and makes the experience suspenseful and amazing. We got to see CC, a 15 year old male. Amazing! Did you know kiwis can live to 50? Alas, not many do. Here's the link - it's just a tiny place. Okarito only has 35 residents (including the author of The Bone People). It's about 45 minutes from Franz Josef.
This is a special once in a lifetime type experience.

Tom - I hope you get the chance to visit the stunning Hawkes Bay (Wine country). My family and I have just moved here and it has some of the best scenery, vineyards, restaurants and golf courses you will ever see.

Hi Tom...
You will love the Routeburn Track. I walked it during the last few days of 1999 (before taking in the first sunrise of 2000 in Queenstown).
Most memorable part of the walk is looking out over the Saddle across to the west coast, and out to the Tasman Sea. Absolutly remarkable!
Enjoy - and make sure you wave when you are on the Saddle... I'm only 3000km across the water in Brisbane :)
