Absolutly great comments as usual Tom. It surely is a great tendency to be drawn into confortable control situations rather than to allow the uncontroled and unpredictable to reign.
Hopefully, neither the sand flys nor the Deat got to you.

Amen to this and thank you Tom.
Process, measurement and numbers are of course crucial but they are 'runners up' to hearts and minds. In another context completely but in a similar vein today I heard Nicky Gumbel say ‘This is not about looking into the head for facts; it is about looking into the heart for feelings’ – I like that.

Hi Tom
Great blog... You are back in teaching mode - this is what I have always thought you do best - welcome back!
I would love to debate you on the content at some time because I believe the caravan has moved on since Thriving on Chaos (which for me was your best book by a NZ country mile - it taught me that to be in control you have to be out of control: I will forever thank you for that gem of an insight)....
You post this blog under "leadership" not sure why but as you do I am prompted to say... As most parents know the best leaders do exactly what they say they will do.... So Tom be a leader and "go have a holiday"... Everyone on this blog site will be more than happy to wait for your return especially if you are rested and envigorated by the sand flies, et al...
Most of all I will be enormously pleased to have Tom the Teacher return to centre stage..
Stay well and stay on holiday...

Great Stuff!
It does well to mention keeping the balance of centralization and 'thriving on chaos'. I believe you must do both to thrive in the business environment of the 21st century.

I currently studying for coaching qualifications - one of the best quotes is talking about haveing "dangerous conversations" - you don't know what is going to happen - you take some risk and more often than not gain new insight, motivation and performance out of the individual
