Tuesday Edition
We welcome Don Tapscott to the ranks of the Cool Friends. His recent book, Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything, might possibly be essential reading for anybody doing business today. Choose wiki methods or not, but you must be aware of this trend. Here's what Tom said about the book:
On the way to Manchester [England] I re-read the profoundly important book by Don Tapscott & Anthony Williams, Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything. If possible, it had greater impact the second time 'round. Hence, I created a little presentation that I used in Manchester—which we've attached. With typical understatement I told our participants, "You must not 'read' this book, you must 'ingest' it."
You can read the rest of Tom's blog post here, or Tapscott's Cool Friends interview here.
Before blogging became all the rage, Tom was posting book reviews and Observations (essentially early blog posts) to this site. You can find the archives below.

Here is a good quote:
It is the love in our lives that underlies and makes possible our greatest healing and longevity.

Wiki is ESSENTIAL resource in my world now - as is Google - beats searching in dull boring academic books any time. More of the same please Mr Tapscott
I like that quote Frank - thank you is it your own words?
I endorse it completely. Since I met and fell in love with my wife three years ago I've radically changed my life. I am definitely 'healed' from a previous 'less than well' life and as regards longevity I now see no reason I can't live to a mimimum 125 years of age ... and still be Blogging of course :-)

The quote comes from John Robbins' book "Healthy at 100: The Scientifically Proven Secrets of the World's Healthiest and Longest-Lived Peoples."

1. "We the People" - cool subtitle - and perhaps it even includes lapdog terriers TG & RL ... as People ... ? ... maybe so ...
2. Hopefully RL comes yipping & yapping forth with a wiki business model that I can steal & incredibly profit from & claim as my own ... wiki wiki ...

Always remember "you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink"... You can give away your Intellectual Property, your Business Models, your Best Ideas, etc but you can't make people use them and profit from them....
As you know - you do not have to steal my models or my ideas as they are all freely provided on my blog... As you also know my advice is what I charge money for because that is what I do to provide "use value" at the actual coalface of change, growth, expansion, innovation, etc (that is what I believe in these days)... I am not interested in "value adding" to C20th business or organisational models...
Yeah, yeah, yeah I know I just can not help myself - Sean!
I am delighted today because my blog is one year old yesterday SO I am able to celebrate that fact by giving a present to all my readers - yeah its a free copy of 20 New Ways.... Free Intellectual Property and business models for all - to celebrate a wonderful year I have had blogging....
Given that it is just "you and me" on this blog Sean here is a present for you.... I say a present because I do not want you to have to go around "stealing" other people's ideas to boost your wealth from $US3.25 million to the $US30 million or is it $US300 million you need to live a "minimalist luxury life" these days...
Here is my tip for you... Choose "cooperation" not "collaboration" (despite what the experts say - also do not be fooled these two words are not the same: they are not even close to being the same)... Sean (and anyone else out there who wants to listen) choose inclusion (Google model)not exclusion (Microsoft model)...
That is a model that you can "incredibly profit from and claim as your own"... In the new and emerging networked economies you will make mega US dollars - the work will be virtual but the dollars will be tangible....

Richard and Sean - how about we re-define front liner to mean all of us?

1. RL - congratulations on the 1 year birthday & thanks in advance for the 20 New Ways ... early Sunday here - Monday for you ...
2. TG - congratulations if you are still doing your Keith Richards' imitation - a. passed out in the bushes, b. empty Jack Daniels' bottle in one hand, c. lit filterless Lucky Strike in the other, d. large dog licking your face ... :>]
3. Seems we are poised to take $3.25 to $20M anyway given fondness for WL - wiki lifestyle ... key deal is to give 50% of it away perhaps - CSI - cooperation - smiles - inclusion ... >:] - SL
