Saturday Edition

Better late then never. In Boston this Day of the Irish paralleled a dig out from our latest storm of note. Above, you'll see a bench on the Commonwealth Avenue promenade—not quite ready for Spring. Below, St Patty's traditional Boston Public Garden attire for either Jack or Kack or Lack or Mack or Nack or Quack or Pack. (Based on the children's classic Make Way for Ducklings, by Robert McCloskey. Some commentator will, I trust, fill you in on the details.)

For info, on St. Patrick's Day (Saturday) the Irish rugby team, as expected, beat Italy by 51 points to 24 in Rome. However, they only finished 2nd in the European championship - France won it. I went to Cardiff where, unfortunately, Wales beat England and as much as I hate to say it, they deserved to win the game.
Meantime, though, the Irish cricket team - who are ranked about 8,765th in the world, beat 4th ranked Pakistan by 3 wickets in the World Cup. Amazing performance and well done the Irish!
And it was also my dog Paddy's 10th birthday, so many happy returns to him as well.

I live in Boston and experienced St. Patty's day vicariously as I rode the subway Saturday evening and smelled the alcohol seeping through the skin of all the kids who had been drinking all night.
