Thanks for the reminder. I too appreciated Lady Bird's efforts that reached far beyond the DC area. In Michigan, her beautify America efforts led to cleaning up the proliferation of ugly bill boards on our highways that hid the real beauty of our landscape. It is not too much of a reach to give her credit for the returnable beverage containers that greatly cleaned up our streets. To some, it may seem a bit trivial, but we do have a beautiful country when the landscape is free of litter and wildflowers are given dedicated areas to grow untouched by development. Just this weekend, my wife and I took time from our run on a great rails to trail park here in Michigan, to fill a couple of bags with litter that others who must not have heard her message left. Thanks indeed Lady Bird....

I did not realize the impact that Mrs Johnson had on getting the trees planted in the capital. I live in Texas, and the bluebonnets and other wildflowers are currently in full bloom along our state highways -- another great tribute to Lady Bird.
