Event: Yellow Pages

Tom was in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Thursday, speaking to a group sponsored by Yellow Pages. He had no Internet connection at his hotel, so I am just bringing the PPT to you now. Let's just say he wasn't staying at the Four Seasons this trip. If you attended the event, we'd love to hear from you in the comments. And if you'd like to get the slides, you can do so with the link below:

"Re-imagina: Las Empresas en un Mundo Cambiante” was a WOW event. Although I am 62 and a Cornell graduate, I am like many young boys and girls that were there. I had seen most of the presentations slides, but that was my first Tom Peters live event.

As I wrote on April 16th on the post “Tom Peters: Premia los Fracasos Excelentes,” recalling Phil Daniels “reward excellent failures,” the Dominican Government is pursuing a cost cutting “mediocre success” strategy on the electric power sector which has a very low probability of success. We need a cause, a space and decency to make the customers successful. Electricity is an undistinguished category worldwide.

My project CAUSE and passion is electricity without price controls (EWPC), where I believe Dominicans have a great global comparative advantage waiting to become a competitive advantage. We need to "kill the power sector organization," which is "out of control," to make SPACE to apply the 4 things Tom learned in the last 40 years: decentralization, execution, accountability, and 6:15 a.m. To do it, it is necessary to do many scary and DECENT things.

Question: I agree that there is NO last word, how do you suggest developing the political approaches to sell EWPC or whatever it evolves to and get it done?

Perhaps raising the money-making possibilities of "Broadband over Power Lines" (BPL) would provide a way into the "corridors of power".

Thank Mike L. for the insight. BPL is certainly one of the alternative enabling technologies for EWPC.

Certainely, I wasn't a this event. But I'd loved to. Tom's one of the personalities that every citizen, who could had a minimum knowledge of management, must learn of his speeches and its tips.

The thing that disturbed me of this event, only one thing, is the fact that this event should be realized for general audience, instead for a tiny group of managers.

For that, i've loved in that occasion, watch and learn, no matter the cost of the event, the things that matters in the whole world of management and organizations.
