Wednesday Edition
Who would have bet that 2 of the top 3 capitalist growth stories from the first 7 years of the millennium (or ever, for that matter) would have come from an Islamic autocracy and a Communist-to-the-core nation? I refer, of course, to Dubai and China. (India, the third story.)

1. Free enterprise & related freedoms & free media shall rule le roost worldwide - except for the mired in socialism/Islamnazi UK perhaps.

Sean – I do agree with you about ‘free media.’ After all 'free media' allows Michael Moore’s ‘Sicko’ to expose your US healthcare system. Even your REPUBLICAN buddy Dave Reichert says - 'One in seven Americans, including more than 8 million children, does not have even basic healthcare coverage.'
8 million children without basic health care!!! – I presume that is a testimony you are proud of as a result of ‘Free enterprise & related freedoms.’

1. Time to wake up TG - everyone in USA has health care [federal, state, county, city available - including for up to 15 million illegals]. @ 60 million people - UK is boutique size & should be easy to manage - how is it that Sharia is starting to rule though?
2. Liberal UK pols claim 5 million kids in UK without healthcare - more socialism needed to line their pockets [same via USA liberals].
3. Obese Moore is believed only by a low-IQ crowd - smokers, alcoholics, gluttons, depressives, 'net & email addicts.

Resorting to elitist name-calling and demonizing the opposition is the root of the problem and does not lead to progress. This is the same tactic used by the socialist in the Cold War and look what happened to them. It is no longer a Win Loose world. Continuing to relate to the World’s problems in this kind of linier thinking will not lead to progress. Capitalism must evolve to a more holistic way of thinking. If not we may discover that Capitalism rather then wining, is just the last to fall. Hey it happened to the Greeks it happened to the Romans…the best predictor of the future is the past.

1. Totally disagree MLM "best predictor of the future is the past" - modern randomness rules "Black Swan" like ... free enterprise & related freedoms are the future - even radical Islamists will get it eventually.
Posted by Sean at July 10, 2007 12:32 PM
Sean - Nice to see your mild response as expected.
The truth is you cannot show me the evidence of ANY poll that says even ONE child does not have free health care in the UK. And if you can it is lies.
It is crazy for anyone to say '5 million kids in UK without healthcare' .... the white coats will be collecting the polsters.
EVERY person in the UK has free healthcare from cradle to grave. That is one of the many joys of being a UK citizen in our multi-cultural and therefore rich society - And of course we don't need to take a plastic card to the hospital my friend :-)
Mr Moore has many millions of fans in your country it seems to me from what I read. If they are only - as you put it - ‘smokers, alcoholics, gluttons, depressives,’ then I guess you are just underlining and confirming how many serious health problems you have in your country. Good to know you are supporting me .... thank you :-)

1. Point 3. TG was a reference to your household & your side of the pond esp. House of "Lords" :>].
Posted by Sean at July 10, 2007 1:31 PM
Sean – 'long live' UK and of course ‘live longer’ in UK – the House of Lords is evidence of that if you needed any :-)
Sean view of UK - ‘smokers, alcoholics, gluttons, depressives,’ ….
And yet …. AMERICAN academics conclude;
UK healthcare tops the league of five major western healthcare systems on all headings (US an appalling 4th place)– see my comment on ‘The Wrong Debate’ – and I repeat that research was done by AMERICAN academics!!
Envy is the greatest form of flattery my friend … one day I hope your healthcare system may catch up with our wonderful comprehensive national health service where wealth is no advantage and poverty no disadvantage :-)

The real question is what is the IT. There are universal truths that never change -- truths inherent in the human condition. Sean your very attitude proves my point. Freedom and democracy is more than enterprise and throughout history when left unfettered democracy leads to it's own destruction. You are right, even radical Islamists will get IT eventually, as will radical, Christians, Humanist and Capitalist as well. The real lesson to be learned is extremism of any kind is destructive to the ultimate progress of humanity.
If we reduce the world to survival of the fittest, then we have returned to barbarism and the entire world is in jeopardy of self-destructing.
As far as healthcare, maybe I should consider moving to the UK. I am sick and tired of funding the arrogant elitist health care industry in the US -- unable to utilize the system I fund because the penalty for using the system, I pay for, results in my exclusion from it either through denials or increased premiums. In effect I pay over $5,000 a year for NOTHING. Sean, if you think that is a sustainable system you know little of human dynamics and your ignorance will be you Achilles heal…Google it.

MLM - and you will be very welcome in the UK. We want as many different cultures in our boundaries as we can possibly have to enrich our own culture and thereby learn rather than become insular and arrogant enough to beleive we are in some way 'elite.'
Like 99.9% of my American friends you have a good regard for my country, thank you - it is a mutual respect thing don't you think? - I have nothing but the greatest respect for America
As Mahatma Gandhi famously said: ‘An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'

TG
Very good point. Seeing is a good thing. And thank you.
I have been to GB on a great road trip from Scotland through the English countryside ending in Stratford-upon-Avon, what a beautiful place. My ancestry goes back to Edinburgh and Devonshire. I am passionate in my beliefs because my ancestors where early participants in this great American/Democratic experiment. So I will most likely stay and fight for what I believe. What makes America work is the debate you know…as you can tell I exercise that right freely. But I credit my fire to my Scotish genes and my entrprenural spirit to my English genes.
I just recently participated in the 400th anniversary Celebration and Jamestown Verginia. What struck me was Globilization has been around for a long long time. There is no need to repeat the mistakes of the past out of ignorance.

MLM - great exchange thanks.
We live about 20 minutes from Stratford-upon-Avon. As Shakespeare's birthplace it is one of the most popular tourist towns in UK. Every time we are there - usually on a Sunday - we are surrounded by American accents - it is wonderful to know that so many of your countrymen and women love to visit such a historic place in my country. I lived in Devon for 20 years and one of my closest friends lives in Edinburgh – I used to visit the world famous Edinburgh Festival every September. Stick with your democratic roots. I intend to keep to my socialist roots with warts and wrinkles because fairness underpins socialism not wealth.

1. Wow mlm - seem to be a bit depressed about the world & human condition. One must respect history & learn from it but macro events that shape history are "Black Swan" random I'm convinced & past provides few clues.
Suddenly if today bin Laden's head was on a platter [lovefest time] and/or Musharaff was killed & Pakistani nuclear weapons were in play [well heaven forbid] ... makes how the ancient Greeks drank wine seem irrelevant.
2. The real deal TG is a. how can NHS be fomenting Islam terrorists in their midst - 8 M.D.'s arrested in the latest purge - b. lucky they were inept in homocide bomb science [so far].
3. NHS perversion is your legacy TG - burnt to a crisp eater - aka like a bumbling winefest Clouseau.
4. English too often low-IQ lot given tribal inbreeding one suspects - esp. "royalty" & "Lords". Blind eye & stiff upper lip - flaccid rest of body.

Sean:
Not depressed at all. We just fundamentally think differently. It appears you see the world as a straight-line linier progression. I see the world as a DNA thread of repeated patterns that while they evolve and can be changed by random events the responses to those events are fairly predictable and how things evolve depend on the quality of the response.
Not depressed at all, I just see problems with the response going on to right now. I see very similar patterns in Historical events throughout the ages and the ones that seem to correlate with what I see going on today did not yield positive results.
The world is complex it cannot be reduced Black and White, Right and Wrong, Eye for an Eye. These do not result in Progress. And workable solutions need to be synthesized from both sides of the issue.

Sean - despite your anti-English rant I have nothing but the greatest respect for the US because I rest assured knowing know you are not at all representative of your fellow citizens.

Trevor-don't mistake lack of health insurance for lack of health care. ALL public hospitals in the US are required by law to treat ALL comers regardless of their ability to pay or insurance situation. If you are going to argue, at least understand the argument. It is easy for blowhards like Mr. Moore to scream and shout at everyone who doesn't agree with him, and also to play fast and loose with facts that don't support him. It is no secret that Mr. Moore is a communist. He used to have a TV show here in the US (called TV Nation) and he drove around in a big truck painted red with a Russian hammer and sickle logo on the side. His alignment is pretty obvious. You won't go far with your universal state-funded health insurance idea if you use fringe types like Moore and Senator Durbin (yes, I have read Simplicity blog) to bolster your arguments. It isn't about Republicans and Democrats, either. It is about keeping the damned government as much out of our pockets as possible.

Red:
The Cold War is over Communism has failed. Those tired old arguments and attitudes are so last century.
cheapest online viagra I used to agree with you. But, the system we have is so BROKEN. Big Government is starting to look pretty good compared to Big Brother Business. At least I would have some say in the government. Right now I am at the mercy of the elitist, arrogant, profiteering Insurance and Drug Company “robber barrens.â€
What we have now in the US is NOT working and the medical industry refuses to be innovative and come up with a workable solution. All they really care about getting more and more people to pay for less and less. The government’s only concern is how NOT to pay the Boomers back for the billions of dollars we‘ve paid in over the past 60 years. Funds that they have pilfered and squandered on their pet projects. They have known they had a problem since 1964, so they have NO excuses.
If the result of the new world order is a total disregard for Humanity and lack of social responsibility then we have truly lost our way.

Thanks Red – I do appreciate your update about the US healthcare system. I want to say immediately I am not arrogant enough to PROPOSE any health system for the US and that is not my argument. That is a US argument and all I am doing is merely reflecting on what I am reading in YOUR press. I read recently for instance that the majority of citizens in the US actually WANT a universal and comprehensive state funded system.
I am a bit qualified to talk about the NHS in the UK. We have a universal free national heath service and believe it or not the UK is still not a Communist State. Ask any Conservative and they will tell you that our UK Labour Government has moved so far right that it now looks as far away from communism as the Genghis Khan popular front! Our state funded health service works very well despite its warts and wrinkles because the key words are COMPREHENSIVE, UNIVERSAL and FREE.
“You won't go far with your universal state-funded health insurance idea if you use fringe types like Moore and Senator Durbin’ ….
That is a really interesting comment Red …. Does that mean we should not listen to ‘fringe types’ that Tom Peters always advocates to achieve real change in the business world?
Are you suggesting for instance that for the new health challenges in the 21st century where there have to be new and radical thinking that we ignore ‘fringe types’ and instead find our answers by continuing to listen to 50 year old, white, middle class, suit wearing men who talk boring management jargon to argue for the ‘universal state-funded health insurance idea’ – Come on - give me a few radicals (‘fringe types’) – at least they force me to think and keep me awake.
