Tuesday Edition
Our Cool Friend Marti Barletta spoke with Hoag Levins over at Ad Age the other day about PrimeTime Women, the 50- to 70-year-old women who have ALL the money and are ignored by most marketers. Marti gives a shout out to Tom about 6 minutes into this 8 and a half minute video by noting that Tom has been talking about the women's market "for 15 years." (So, it's really been 11 years, but that's close enough.)

All I have to say to this is Duh! And to the marketing power brokers, who systematically continue to marginalize the women market…well get ready for the backlash.
One thing that is consistent about Boomers is they ALWAYS obliterate the serotypes. And, as more of them retire, they will return to the activist issues of their youth with wisdom and disposable income. And when this happens the world will be better off for their energy when they take on global ecology, equal rights, human rights, meaningful community and responsible government.
One question social scientist need to consider and research about Prime Time Women is why do 51% of them in the US choose to be single?

Thank you for this and for access to the video. Wow, I actually fit a new classification! Prime Time Women. I don't usually like to be classified but this is a good one. What also fascinates me is that most companies don't understand or get that women make most of the buying decisions on almost anything, at any age.
What's different for me is that I work for an organization that not only embraces women of any age as part of its workforce, but actually markets to this population! It's a given here because we are health, information and housing services for this age group. Research we obtained some time ago shows this population spends over $2 trillion in discretionary buying.
In fact, our CEO, recently started our own cable network geared to the over 50 population. And we are doing just fine.
So I guess you can say marketing ignorance of this population is not bliss!
