Wednesday Edition
Tom is speaking in Cancun at a joint customer & distributor conference for Grupo Modelo. They are the 8th largest brewer in the world and exclusively brew and distribute premium beers such as Corona, Pacifico, and Modelo. They have a gigantic market share in Mexico, are also prominent in the U.S.—and they're growing all over the world. (All their breweries are in Mexico.) You can learn more, of course, at Wikipedia.

[*Note from Tom: "The Best" above is not a Client suck-up. Many-most would agree with such a designation.]
Before blogging became all the rage, Tom was posting book reviews and Observations (essentially early blog posts) to this site. You can find the archives below.

Premium beer from the 8th largest brewer - come on - that is surely an oxymoron!!!!!
Beer is a craft and an art. The best comes from small niche breweries.
My current personal tipple of choice is Bishops Finger brewed by Shepherd Neame - a family run brewery founded in 1698.

Nothing like Negro Modello and fresh chips in Chihuahua Mexico...they can keep the Corona...

Give me a pint of Courage Best Bitter any day :-)

PS - Mike and Paul - how about we 3 volunteer as 'tasters' at future presentations - in the interests of research of course :-)

I like that idea!!
Bishops Finger actually has a charter drawn up around it's production. including the fact that it is only to be brewed on Fridays (why is anyones guess!). But one of the lines on the charter is that each month a batch MUST be tested by the company board of directors - mandatory beer drinking - I would love to see the Job description around that !

While my favorite is a pint of Guinness at the Town House Lounge in Caherciveen, Co. Kerry, if I drink beer from a bottle it's nearly always Negro Modelo.
I share Mike's feelings about Corona, but dispute Trevor's implication that the three of you could properly investigate the qualities of these beverages without my help . . .

My new favorite beer is the Belgium brew Duvel. Rich and luscious with plenty of wallop.

wait..."premium beers" and "Corona" in the same sentence....?????
Sorry. Thanks for playing today - we have some lovely parting gifts for you....
I have to agree with PaulH - "Beer is a craft and an art. The best comes from small niche breweries."

It's the experience. Sitting on the back porch of the Dock (a restaurant/bar), looking at the Gulf of Mexico, drinking long-necks of Corona with lime wedges pushed down into the tops of the bottles. Cheap and fun, fun, fun.

People at Grupo Modelo are running like headless chickens right now trying to figure out how will the InBev/A-Busch/SABMiller saga will end... ;-)
And no... Corona, Pacifico and Modelo are NOT premium beers. They are not bad, but certainly not premium
