Friday Edition
Stephanie Palmer wants to help you find clients, increase revenue, and get financing for your ideas. After ten years in the film industry, including six as Director of Creative Affairs at MGM Pictures, Palmer founded a consultancy. Now she uses what she learned about being successful in meetings to coach business leaders, executives, and creative professionals on getting their ideas the attention they deserve and the financing they need. She presents this expertise in her book, Good in a Room: How to Sell Yourself (and Your Ideas) and Win Over Any Audience, which she discussed with Erik in her Cool Friends interview.
To hear the whole original conversation, you can download an MP3 by means of this link. For a few tips from Stephanie, we have available a shorter MP3 titled "Three Things."

Erik... you did such a nice job with this conversation... your 'meeting' with Stephanie Palmer went so well that we all got to share 'the moment'... Ms Palmer is so C21st in her thinking - she makes so much sense when she discusses the ways she believes business is best conducted... why? as you picked up so well in talking with her.... she acknowledges the human need within us all to be part of 'the conversation' not just 'a voice' in the meeting... she inherently trusts herself, her clans, and her tribes... she has learned a lot and is willing to share her lessons with us all... says it all really.... Erik you made her come alive on my screen - I could hear, see, and feel this conversation so clearly... perhaps what helped me here is the simple fact I agree with so much of the content of your conversation that I felt included not excluded from this 'meeting'... it seems to me that having that sense of being 'included' is still what most people crave whether they are living their dream or still pursuing it ... well done to both of you!

Richard, Thanks for such a compliment. I've worked on many of these interviews, and I've come to expect Erik to always ask the questions that get to the heart of the book and the person. I also think Stephanie and her expertise are an excellent addition to our Cool Friends collection. I'm sure there are other books on the subject of how to make the most of meetings, but how many of the authors can claim having experienced 3,000 meetings in their careers? 3 thousand. At 240 days/year and 6 years at MGM, that's more than 2 meetings per day. Picture it.
