Sunday Edition
The day finds Tom in Santiago, Chile, speaking to a general executive audience sponsored by the Harvard Business Review América Latina on the topic of "Excelencia en la ejecución." There's a video on their website, but it's an announcement for the event, not Tom in action. If you'd like, you can test your Spanish comprehension by playing the video at the HBR América Latina website. We invite everybody who attended the event to join our comments and to get the PPT slides, below:

This is not about "business," but people.
I have lived in Santiago off and on for the past 11 years on a variety of U.S. funded fellowships. Exactly a year ago when I was there for seven weeks on a Fulbright grant. I met ex-pat Americans (in media) who have launched English language print and radio websites. They were blazing a trail and did it locally. They hired young people (from all over the world who landed in Santiago for a million different reasons) and let them loose, finding stories local media wouldn't cover, getting hands-on skills training and . Hosting programs that local radio won't air. The newspaper and radio station were in a house in the "bohemian"neighborhood of Bellavista. The morning editorial meeting for the paper was in the front room. The radio, met in the back of the house and then in the garden behind that room.
My grant was to "consult" with the internet radio station at Universidad de Catolica de Santiago. But, using social networking sites as "Facebook," I found great people doing great things. I got my colleague at Catolica to start a Facebook identity for the radio station (radiouc.cl). We laugh now that I, the "old man" got the young guy into social networking.
Even through Fulbright, I met people who while Americans, went there to make a difference. I'm on Skype with them today. One couple is expecting a child now.
I'll go back. I always do.
I hope Mr. Peters has a great visit and also can by chance, meet people whom he will remain in contact as the years go by. Plus, at the time of year, the Andes are beautiful as the sun rises and sets.

Maybe Tom will remember the guy that at the Santiago conference told him how his wife would tell him "why do you go to work so early everyday when you are the General Manager".....anyhow, just wanted to comment what a great experience has ben for me (and I guess for many others that assisted to the conference)to listen to a guy that one sees as a "guru" to explain everything in so simple and logics terms...amazing! and above all thanks for being such a simple person who we could talk to, take pothos with, etc. great Tom,,,you are a big and wise man...thanks for teaching us
