Monday Edition
Tom is speaking to the Leaders in Dubai Business Forum 2008. He's on the program along with former World Bank president James Wolfensohn, the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, his good friend and former McKinsey Managing Director Rajat Gupta, Mohamed ElBaradei (Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency), Sante Fe Institute President Geoffrey West, Rudy Giuliani, and others. Tom reports that the growth of Dubai continues at an astonishing rate—though there are some signs that the global financial fiasco is beginning to take its toll. If you were there, we welcome your comments, and if you'd like to get the PPT presentation, you can use the link below:

Hi Tom,
I'm glad I'm the first to leave a comment on your presentation at the 'Leaders in Dubai' event today.
First of all, I thoroughly enjoyed it, nay - I immensely enjoyed it, every minute of it but was thoroughly shocked at the person beside me who was fast asleep, snoring in fact.
I loved your concept about renaming HR and CTAO, Talent Development, etc, etc and remember voicing those same concepts about a year ago to my organization, basically from the point of view of giving the ppl who worked in HR a purpose to their work i.e. giving them a reason to get up each morning. Of course, it fell on deaf ears and I could definately hear some snickering in the background. Which also brought me to my conclusion that no matter what the department name was changed to, if the ppl who worked in it did not have the right attitude, it was never going to work.
I would like to sign-off by quoting WIKIPEDIA on the meaning of TAO, which is part of CTAO " In Chinese, the character TAO itself translates as "way," "path," or "route," or sometimes more loosely as "doctrine" or "principle" - Perhaps if HR ppl look upon their career as builders of a path or way to 'serve' their customers (employees), perhaps then we could see the true potential of HR really coming through and justifying our position at the head of the table.
Thanks again for reminding me again never to give up in my beliefs.
Regards
Frank

Frank - someone sleeps during a TP presentation???!! - that has to be a first. Did you check his pulse? :- )
I had the immense pleasure of watching a ‘Tom gig’ of 4 successive, 90 minute sessions in one day in London in 2006 and I stayed wide awake for the 6 hours. I was hooked completely. I can only conclude this guy must have been at the hotel bar until the early hours the night before. I hope his company - they probably paid for his ticket - will ask him for a report of what Tom said. But I'm not bitter :-)

Excellent presentation, pulled no punches (well almost none)got to the heart of the matter....I left very charged up to go out and K.I.S.S. my colleagues and : ) more!
Can I suggest weekly podcasts...(if you're not already),,,people (i.e. me) would pay for a weekly dose of straight talk and then not have to wait 6-12-24 months 'to be reminded of the things (I)already know'....until you come back through again
GREAT GREAT GREAT presentation...come back soon!

TP's on the 3rd line of the starting grid at http://www.leadersindubai.com/ - Excellent! TP would need to be involved in a huge disaster to move higher!
