And When Night Falls ...

Don't trust your eyes! No, I am not Bernard Madoff by night!

Tom Peters posted this on 12/19/08.

We only have your word for it Tom. There is a definite similarity (!) but Madoff is more stooped. It must be the money in his coat pockets!

NOW, THAT'S TOO FUNNY! LOL! LOL! LOL!

The addition of the side by side images reveal one thing: The gentleman on the right is by far better looking. As my mom used to tell me "pretty is as pretty does."

Posted by Judith Ellis at December 19, 2008 12:17 PM

Tom-- You are way more handsome!

Tom - you when to say "enough!"

Posted by Tom N at December 19, 2008 2:41 PM

That's - you KNOW when to say "enough!"

Posted by Tom N at December 19, 2008 2:43 PM

Question: What's the difference?

Answer: I WOULD buy a second hand car off the bloke on the right.

Tom....

If a picture is worth a thousand words... then you have been moonlighting down on Wall Street...

Richard.

Tom,

Very funny.

Honestly, it's night on the left and dawn on the right :)

Best,
Raj

That's pretty funny, Tom. You need to take a stroll down Wall Street some afternoon and watch folks' reactions. On second thought, that might not be a safe thing to do.

Happy Christmas to all.

And wasn't it his sons that turned him in? Truly "Mad-off" their rocker! Perfect cell mate for OJ Simpson.

I truly feel for all those taking a hit or worse in this radical downturn - for many countries it is a Great Recession. Putin & Chavez though are getting their just due.

In the short term why not refinance @ 4% for a 30 year fixed mortgage - in fact take on a massive low interest debt load & surf the hyper inflation coming in the US/UK/Europe is a scant 1-2 years - buy now surf later! :>)

Ahem. Full disclosure. My 43-year old wife thinks you're hot. (Yikes) But she thinks Susan's designs are beautiful. (Damned integrity!)

Bought a charming little house built in the 50's some months back and have not as of yet done much with it besides plant a garden. After just checking out the lovely store in Manchester Vermont, I'm inspired to do some stuff.

(David - You're two for two in the great design category: Threadless and Susan Sargent Designs!)

I'll start by ordering the three books by Susan and go from there. Usually I sprinkle color about and am not a particularly voluminous decorator. But I think the house, time and spirits all call forth something bolder, something new. (The house is my beloved brother's who passed.)

Color seems to be just what I’ve been waiting for.

Wow Judith! I guess we never know what words will be a catalyst and touch some piece of our hearts. (And all because Tom is hot)

Posted by David Porter at December 21, 2008 11:54 AM

Thanks, David. Words really do matter. The books should be arriving soon "all because Tom is hot." Too funny!

An early Christmas present as my beloved Manchester United are crowned world soccer champions. Finally we have the proof that United are the best football team in the world, under the best soccer manager in the world - Sir Alex Ferguson!http://www.simplicityitk.blogspot.com/

The real concern would be if Madoff had been passing himself off as TP...

"Drop the hat for sure!"

Patrick, sartorial advice always welcome! But the idea of roaming the world, or the neighborhood, without a baseball cap is, in a word, and Mr Madoff not withstanding, unthinkable. Sorry.

I like your sense of humor.

I was just given a book for Christmas that I will probably finish in a single night. From what I gather it's an interesting story about Nicholas Darvas who was not only a successful trader but according to the preface "an original...who won at almost everything he did whether it was creating crossroads puzzles, playing championship Ping-Pong, or working as the world's highest paid ballroom dancer."

The book: How I made $2,000,000 in the Stock Market. Darvas appears to have been successful in any market. When Darvas wrote his second book, Wall Street: The Other Las Vegas, which "exposed the brokers and the tipsters" and "destroyed many of the phony illusions that are the trappings of Wall Street," Barron "flatly refused to accept any advertising." I wonder why? His publisher offers this proverb: "Whose bread I eat, his song I sing."

The publisher concludes: "The volume you hold in your hands was the first book to change dramatically the way customers perceived their brokers and brokerage houses. Read it and you’ll see why. Absorb it, and you'll be enriched in all your future stock-trading attitudes."

I assume Madoff's investors had not read Darvas' book. By the way, I am terribly saddened by the apparent suicide of one in New York who lost nearly two billion in the scheme. Peace and blessings to his.
