Pioneering Users of Technological Innovations
The term "completely original analysis" is overused—by me, among others. But Amar Bhide's well-received book, The Venturesome Economy: How Innovation Sustains Prosperity in a More Connected World, deserves this accolade.
The argument in a nutshell: The most important innovations are not the highly visible technology breakthroughs. They are, instead, the innovations created by consumers of the breakthrough innovations.

Interesting post. Is this not, though, the same completely original analysis as that laid out by Eric Von Hippel in Democratizing Innovation?

Analogue organisations have insides and outsides. Inside is the talent, systems, processes, research and development, etc. Outside is the user, consumer, customer, government agencies, etc. Digital networks have no inside. Therein lies the problem for most modern organisations - they can not compete with a digital network because it has no inside to compete against.

Prof Eric Von Hipple Professor and Head of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He specializes in research related to the nature and economics of distributed and open innovation. He also develops and teaches practical methods that firms can use to improve their product and service development processes. He is a legend. Last year I joined an online innovation group and we had him as a specialist input along with Jake Nickell a co-founder of Threadless. Eric is the guru of consumer-led innovation - he has been working in this field simply forever (since 1970s? - not sure).
