Friday Edition

Tom's at the beginning of an extended speaking tour that will take him to eight countries in two months (not counting the U.S.). Today, he's pleased to be in Abu Dhabi presenting the "Second Annual Leadership Lecture," which he bills as "Developing a Culture of Excellence." You can download the slides here, and we'd love to hear from you in the comments if you were there. Tom's pictures, above and below, give a good feel for the place (it certainly looks as if he's away from the snow again).

The image of the multiple skyscrapers all being built at the same time is amazing. It does get me thinking. The success the United States enjoyed while building it’s heyday was based on lots of sacrifice. Some say it was the greatest generation that built the great things that makes America what it is (until this latest fiasco) The folks in the Middle East just had to wait for the US - the world - to come looking for something they always had - oil – no war(s) necessary – to simply buy everything they needed. This may be an overly simplistic view. At any rate, I must ask - is there a lesson here?
