Worthwhile article. "Servant leadership" is a critical concept. John Gardner's "On Leadership" and Max DuPree's several books on leadership really dig into it, and are recommended.

Great reminder Tom, thanks. It got me thinking (and taking action!) We (mgmt) do NO work. So the only thing we CAN DO, is make it easier for our staff to do the work. Simple concept - Difficult to do regularly.

Go along with this expecially the CHRO concept.
In terms of taking it further with the belief that leaders exist throughout organisations (rather than just positional boss power)the idea of "distributed leadership" esp in professional contexts with everyone looking to remove hurdles can be a great way to engage people and raise productivity - be that in a public or profit organsation.
Requires the other key aspects of buying in to the shared purpose, values and vision etc for success
